Title: Mary's Dress Date: 04/2007 Size: 24" x 18" Material: Charcoal Drawing Paper Medium: Vine and Compressed Charcoal
This charcoal drawing was part of a series of pieces I did every week for my Senior Seminar Art course last year.
This is a black and white charcoal recreation of Mary's dress on a stand in a dark apartment room that you encounter at the beginning of the game "Silent Hill 2". In the middle of the chest area is a pocket flashlight that you use throughout the rest of the game.
Ah yes, I forgot about that part. The mannequin legs in the back come alive and start attacking. I beat them to death with my trusty wooden board with a nail in it though. Classic scene from a classic game.

Thank you, though I never could get that lighting from the flashlight around the chest area quite right. It needs to be brightest at the center and it just doesn't give that impression.

Beautifully done. I especially like how you managed to maintain such a strong contrast between the light and shadow without having the image.
I feel bad that I forgot this was the original location of the flashlight. That game is layered with so many interesting metaphors I suppose one can't help but forget a few.

Across the globe, 27 million men, women, and children live in some form of slavery. That is more people at this moment than in all the centuries of the Atlantic Slave Trade. Something must be done. This contest serves two purposes: Raising awareness about human trafficking and raising funds for the Not For Sale organization.
Open to all mediums. Deadline is March 10, 2010 @ 11:59pm PST.
