Title: Light Illuminating the Darkness Date: 05/2007 Size: 48" x 30" Material: Canvas on Wooden Frame Medium: Oil
This painting was part of a series of pieces I did every week for my Senior Seminar Art course last year, and this was one of the last two pieces I completed for that course.
This is my attempt at a full-size replica of one of the two altar paintings found on the 3rd floor attic of the Nowhere level of the first Silent Hill game. I had previously done a smaller scale charcoal drawing of this painting, but I had always intended to recreate it as a genuine real-life painting.
It was much more difficult to replicate this image than the "Misty day" painting because there were already large clear images of that painting available, but only small, low-resolution pics of these two attic paintings from SH1. Not unexpected given the now outdated PSone era graphics, nonetheless I did my best to reproduce the image as accurately as possible.
I knocked together the wooden frame and stretched the canvas myself in order to get the right dimensions, as no store sold any pre-made canvases at the size I would need. Using a JPEG image of the painting from the game, I used a grid system to transfer the image in pencil as a drawing onto the larger scale canvas. Then it was just a matter of painting it all in.
Note: This is not a very good image of the painting, but the only one I have at the moment. I'll try to get a better pic taken and uploaded sometime in the near future.

Across the globe, 27 million men, women, and children live in some form of slavery. That is more people at this moment than in all the centuries of the Atlantic Slave Trade. Something must be done. This contest serves two purposes: Raising awareness about human trafficking and raising funds for the Not For Sale organization.
Open to all mediums. Deadline is March 10, 2010 @ 11:59pm PST.
